Case #10

Findings

  • Acute, nondisplaced radial head/neck fracture without definite intraarticular extension
  • Elbow joint effusion

Diagnosis

  • Radial head/neck fracture

Sample Report

Acute, nondisplaced radial head/neck fracture without definite intraarticular extension.

No joint malalignment.

Elbow joint effusion.

Joint spaces are maintained.

Discussion

  • Make sure you are comfortable with identifying elbow joint effusions
  • If an effusion is present, look first for a radial head fracture in an adult and a supracondylar humeral fracture in a child, as these are the most common
