Findings

  • Acute triceps avulsion fracture from its olecranon attachment with a 2 mm avulsed fracture fragment
  • Soft tissue swelling overlying the olecranon and distal triceps
  • Heterotopic ossification adjacent to the medial epicondyle


Diagnosis

  • Triceps avulsion fracture

Sample Report

Acute triceps avulsion fracture from its olecranon attachment with a 2 mm avulsed fracture fragment and soft tissue swelling overlying the olecranon and distal triceps.

No joint malalignment.

Joint spaces are maintained.

Heterotopic ossification adjacent to the medial epicondyle.


Discussion

  • Triceps avulsion injuries are uncommon, but this is a good example of the importance of looking for and describing tiny avulsion fractures
