Findings

  • Acute comminuted olecranon fracture with 1 cm distraction and superior rotation of the dominant fracture fragment
  • Multiple small ossific fragments overlie the joint
  • Posterior subluxation of the elbow
  • Elbow joint effusion
  • Extensive soft tissue swelling about the elbow, particularly overlying the olecranon


Diagnosis

  • Olecranon fracture

Sample Report

Acute comminuted olecranon fracture with 1 cm distraction and superior rotation of the dominant fracture fragment.

Multiple small ossific fragments overlie the joint of unclear origin.

Posterior subluxation of the elbow.

Elbow joint effusion.

Extensive soft tissue swelling about the elbow, particularly overlying the olecranon.


Discussion

  • Displaced olecranon fractures typically require internal fixation. Make sure to comment on the degree of displacement and comminution, if present
