Case #15

Findings

  • Acute nondisplaced radial head fracture with slight articular surface impaction laterally
  • Elbow joint effusion

Diagnosis

  • Radial head fracture

Sample Report

Acute nondisplaced radial head fracture with slight articular surface impaction laterally.

No joint malalignment.

Elbow joint effusion.

Joint spaces are maintained.

Discussion

  • When you see an elbow joint effusion in an adult, make sure to closely scrutinize the radial head
  • In this case, poor definition of the lateral aspect of the radial head and a band of sclerosis just beneath the articular surface are helpful clues
