Findings

  • Age-indeterminate 5 mm avulsion fracture from the proximal olecranon at the site of triceps attachment with 2 cm superior distraction and surrounding soft tissue swelling
  • Additional smaller ossific fragments/heterotopic ossification between this fragment and the proximal olecranon


Diagnosis

  • Triceps avulsion fracture

Sample Report

Age-indeterminate 5 mm triceps avulsion fracture from its attachment on the proximal olecranon with 2 cm superior distraction and surrounding soft tissue swelling.

Additional smaller ossific fragments/heterotopic ossification between this fragment and the proximal olecranon.

No joint malalignment.

No joint effusion.

Joint spaces are maintained.


Discussion

  • Triceps avulsion injuries are uncommon, but this is a good example of the importance of looking for and describing tiny avulsion fractures
