Findings

  • Acute minimally displaced fracture of the left occipital condyle
  • Acute minimally displaced fracture of the anterior inferior corner of the C5 vertebral body
  • No traumatic malalignment
  • No substantial prevertebral edema


Diagnosis

  • Acute minimally displaced left occipital condyle and anterior inferior corner (teardrop) C5 fractures

Sample Report

Acute minimally displaced fracture of the left occipital condyle.

Acute minimally displaced fracture of the anterior inferior corner of the C5 vertebral body (teardrop fracture).

No traumatic malalignment. MRI could further assess for ligamentous injury if there is clinical concern.


Discussion

  • Remember the look closely for occipital condyle fractures. They are often subtle
  • Look at vertebral bodies on both sagittal and coronal reformats to cover your corners
