Case #28

Findings

  • Contrast material injected via the patient’s gastrostomy tube opacifies the stomach and proximal small bowel
  • Nonobstructive bowel gas pattern
  • No abnormal intraabdominal mass effect or calcification
  • Minimal bibasilar atelectasis
  • Enlarged cardiopericardial silhouette

Diagnosis

  • Well positioned gastrostomy tube

Sample Report

Contrast material injected via the patient’s gastrostomy tube opacifies the stomach and proximal small bowel, confirming intraluminal placement.

Nonobstructive bowel gas pattern.

No abnormal intraabdominal mass effect or calcification.

Minimal bibasilar atelectasis.

Enlarged cardiopericardial silhouette.

Discussion

  • G-tube placement confirmation radiographs are typically straightforward
  • Look for contrast not conforming to a bowel loop to raise suspicion for extraluminal leakage
