  • No focal airspace disease, pleural effusion, or pneumothorax
  • Normal size and configuration of the cardiothymic silhouette
  • Rounded ossific densities projecting along the left margin of the thoracic spine, which are consistent with sternal ossification centers
  • Gaseous distension of the stomach


Diagnosis

  • Normal
  • Sternal ossification centers

Sample Report

No focal airspace disease, pleural effusion, or pneumothorax.

Normal size and configuration of the cardiothymic silhouette.


Discussion

  • Many cases you read on call will be normal (even pediatric chest radiographs)
  • Sternal ossification centers can sometimes be confused for subacute/remote rib fractures
