Case #32

Findings

  • Hyperinflation with mild diffuse peribronchial thickening
  • No focal airspace opacification, pleural effusion, or pneumothorax
  • Normal size and configuration of the cardiopericardial silhouette
  • Rounded left posterior mediastinal mass

Diagnosis

  • Posterior mediastinal mass (bronchogenic cyst)
  • Viral bronchiolitis

Sample Report

Hyperinflation with mild diffuse peribronchial thickening, consistent with viral bronchiolitis. No focal airspace opacification.

No pleural effusion or pneumothorax.

Normal size and configuration of the cardiopericardial silhouette.

Rounded left posterior mediastinal mass. Recommend chest CT for further evaluation.

Discussion

  • Notice how this mass does not obscure the left heart border, indicating that it is not in the middle mediastinum

Images

Red arrows: subsequent chest CT shows a fluid density lesion in the left posterior mediastinum, compatible with a bronchogenic cyst.
